How it works
Converting an hourly wage to a salary multiplies the rate by the hours actually worked and the weeks actually worked: $25 an hour at 40 hours across 52 weeks is $52,000 a year. The calculator extends the same multiplication into the pay periods budgets run on — monthly, biweekly and weekly figures — and reports the total annual hours behind them. The weeks input is where honesty enters: 52 assumes every week is worked, so seasonal jobs, contract gaps and unpaid leave belong as reductions, while arrangements with paid time off stay at 52 because PTO weeks are paid. The 40-hour, 52-week year — 2,080 hours — is the standard full-time baseline employers reach for in quick conversions. What the annual figure deliberately excludes is overtime, bonuses and benefits, which matter: employer-paid insurance, retirement match and leave typically add 15-30% on top of wages, so a bare wage-to-salary comparison flatters neither side until benefits enter the frame.Formula
Annual = hourly x hours/week x weeks/year | Monthly = annual / 12 | Biweekly = annual / 26
Tips
- The standard baseline is 2,080 hours — 40 hours across 52 weeks.
- Drop the weeks input for seasonal or contract gaps; 52 flatters them.
- Benefits add 15-30% to a package — a bare wage comparison misses them entirely.
- Overtime is excluded here; project it separately before calling the annual figure guaranteed.
- $25/hour is $52,000 a year only if the hours actually happen.
